How is in vitro fertilization done in Kenya? IVF consists of five steps:
Incentive Normally, a woman produces an egg during each menstrual cycle. However, IVF requires multiple eggs. Using multiple eggs increases the chances of developing a viable embryo. You will be given fertility drugs to increase the number of eggs your body produces. During this time, your doctor will do regular blood tests and ultrasounds to monitor egg production and tell you when they need to be collected. Egg Extraction Egg retrieval is known as follicular aspiration. It is a surgical procedure performed under anesthesia. Your doctor will use an ultrasound wand to insert a needle through your vagina into your ovaries and into the follicle containing the egg. The needle will suck out the egg and fluid from each follicle. Sowing The male partner will now have to provide a semen sample. The technician will mix the sperm and egg in a petri dish. If this doesn't produce an embryo, your doctor may decide to use ICSI in Kenya. Embryo Culture Your doctor will check the fertilized eggs to make sure they are dividing and developing. Currently, embryos can be tested for genetic diseases. Broadcast When the embryos are large enough, they can be implanted. This usually occurs three to five days after fertilization. The implant consists of a thin tube called a catheter that is inserted into the vagina, through the cervix, and into the uterus. Your doctor then inserts the embryos into your uterus. Pregnancy occurs when the embryo implants in the wall of the uterus. This may take 6 to 10 days. A blood test will determine if you are pregnant. What is the difference between IVF and IUI (Intrauterine Insemination)? Intrauterine insemination (IUI) differs from in vitro fertilization (IVF) because fertilization occurs inside the fallopian tubes during the IUI procedure. The semen sample is collected and washed to ensure that only quality sperm remain. This sample is inserted through a catheter into the uterus at the time of ovulation. This method helps the sperm reach the egg more easily in the hope that fertilization will occur. In IVF, sperm and eggs are fertilized outside your body (in a laboratory) and then placed in the uterus as embryos. IUI treatment in Kenya is cheaper and less invasive than IVF. IUI has a low success rate per cycle.
